I’d have preferred it on the plate with some slices of bread or the roll on which the BLT was served. The chicken salad was good, but it came in a bread bowl that was too hard to eat. The chicken salad was creamy, with big chunks of chicken, apricots on top and a salad in a separate bowl on the side. I did snag a French fry, however, and it was warm and crisp.įlourless chocolate cake with caramel sauce and whipped cream is a rich but satisfying dessert. I never did get a bite of that one but my friend apparently enjoyed it as he left nothing behind. The BLT came on a sturdy roll, with ripe tomatoes, thick strips of bacon and fresh lettuce. The entrees looked appealing when they did arrive. My companion tried the cured salmon carpaccio ($18), while I opted for the roasted vegetable omelette ($13). One had the apricot chicken salad ($14), another the candied BLT ($14). Our waters, iced teas and bloody Mary glasses went untended.įor the sake of research, we all ordered different dishes. It appeared she was working tables on the patios on either side of the bar, so we didn’t see a lot of her. We nursed our first round of drinks and, while my companion managed to get a glass of wine to replace his mimosa, our server was scarce. Nothing too surprising here, but if it’s prepared well, it doesn’t need to break the mold.Īlthough there weren’t many tables occupied at the early end of brunch, our orders took a while to come out. My companion switched to Matua sauvignon blanc ($12), which arrived properly chilled and was much more to his liking.Ī candied BLT with fries is a tasty option for bacon lovers at The Bevy. Both drinks looked lovely and, on this warmish morning, were cool and refreshing, but were weak on alcohol. I went with a traditional bloody Mary ($12). One of the specialty drinks is a carrot-ginger mimosa ($12), which my companion ordered. While our friends opted for iced tea, my companion and I explored the brunch bevys. As befits a place called The Bevy - slang for alcoholic beverages as well as a crowd - she took drink orders first. Once our canine was attended to, our server turned her attention to the humans. That was a good thing as far as I was concerned since it was a relatively warm morning. ![]() We took our little Chinese crested- Yorky mix, Gigi, with us for a recent brunch with friends and noticed that our server fetched Gigi’s bowl of water before taking orders for our drinks. (Before it changed hands a few weeks ago, it was even serving a three-course meal for dogs. Even the family dog is welcomed with a bowl of fresh water. The Bevy was created to offer a casual, laid-back space to enjoy a drink, some munchies or perhaps a more substantial meal with family and friends. A block of fruit incased in water (fancy ice) is artfully displayed before being delicately dropped into the glass, and it’s finally topped with a piece of thick candied bacon.Apricot chicken salad and a green salad make a light meal. BEVY NAPLES FULLWhen the glass is full of smoke, it’s turned upright and filled with a shaker of whiskey, orange bitters and maple syrup. Bartenders add fire to a cedar plank, just long enough to create smoke, which is then trapped in a bar glass. The signature Cedar Fire Old Fashioned is a crowd pleaser, not just for taste but presentation. The bar, with its inventive cocktails and unusual wine offerings, is The Bevy’s centerpiece. ![]() ![]() However, the areas flanking the bar become open air when the weather is nice, and so does the entrance. At first glance, it appears you are completely indoors, thanks to a retractable roof and a living plant wall. The Bevy is beguiling, and at times deceiving. ![]() Hot hangouts with simple names are the rage this fall: The Social House, also known as SOHO, in downtown Fort Myers and The Bevy on Third Street South in Naples are two of the newest ones. ![]()
